Magic will happen at the South Wedge Mission when three incredibly talented musicians, masters of collaboration, with distinct musical and cultural roots converge.
Expect the unexpected when RUBEN MORENO from Houston TX, RIC ROBERTSON from Greensboro NC, and BRANDON MOREAU from Basile LA take the stage. Having never played together before, they’ll blend and bend when they mix the best of Creole Zydeco, Cajun Bluegrass, and Jazz-Funk-Americana.
Part of the magic will flow from the beauty and acoustics of the South Wedge Mission’s chapel itself … possessing room to sit and soak in the sounds and great space to move and dance. The chapel will be ideally configured for OPTIMAL SEATING to hear and experience the music, as well as setting aside ample ROOM TO DANCE on an amazing wood floor without interfering with people’s view of the performance.

PERFORMER BIOS
RUBEN MORENO – Dynamic musician of mixed Creole-Tejano lineages who rides atop the Zydeco scene in Houston TX and brings a magnetic youthful energy with a sizzlin-hot locked-down dance groove to everything he touches. Ruben is a steward of the next generation of Zydeco music, incorporating traditional sounds and captivating rhythms taking Zydeco music in fresh directions. At 35, Ruben is a veteran of the musical road, who began performing in clubs at age 13, and by 15 hit the road, never looking back, playing washboard professionally with his uncle Leroy Thomas as well as Grammy nominated Zydeco artist and crowned Prince of Zydeco. Ruben will be up in NYS on a mini-tour (Feb 12-16) with his band “The Creole Swamp Krewe, wsg Kevin Wimmer”.
RIC ROBERTSON – American original, pulling influences from the greats that came before, but wholly responsible for creating his own creative universe with captivating originals that draw you in both musically and lyrically. Robertson’s voice and lyrics hold a soft Southern burr, a Zen acceptance of humanity’s failings, and, most importantly, a sense of pure playfulness in the music. He’s a dynamic muscian. An amazingly talented multi-instrumentalist, from guitar and mandolin to keys and bass, Ric’s relentlessly creative, a musician’s musician, as testified by the fact that he’s continuously in-demand as a touring bandmate, playing and recording with everyone from Rhiannon Giddens to The Wood Brothers, from The Sam Grisman Project to Donna the Buffalo … a testament to Robertson’s playful sense of collaboration.
BRANDON MOREAU – Revered fiddler and vocalist born and raised in Basile, Louisiana, hometown of Cajun music legend, Dewey Balfa, whose style is core to Brandon’s fiddle. He learned Cajun music from both his father Kim and grandfather Vorrance Moreau, so was influenced by their prairie style from day one. After years of playing in Cajun bands throughout Acadiana, Brandon was drawn New Orleans to expand his musical horizons, where he’s lived and performed for over a decade. Once in NOLA playing on Bourbon Street, he formed “Brandon Moreau and CajunGrass”, working from his roots in Cajun music weaving in Honky-tonk, Swing and Bluegrass, pushing the envelope of what’s the norm.
